Trust & safety

Moving away from home should not be a gamble.

Choosing a hostel is often a student's first big decision alone. Here is exactly what we do to make it a safer one — and what we don't do yet.

What we do

Four things every listing goes through.

Review before publishing

No hostel is visible to students until our team has reviewed its listing. Changes to name, address, city, gender policy or booking mode re-open review.

Bed-level availability

Hostels track each bed individually. Availability on GetMeBed comes from those records, not from a description written months ago.

Clear gender policy

Every hostel states whether it is for boys, girls or mixed, and this is one of the details we check during review.

Suspension for misleading listings

Listings that are reported and found to mislead students can be suspended and removed from search.

Being clear

What review does not mean.

We would rather you know the limits than assume a guarantee we do not give.

  • Review checks the listing, not the building. Always visit, or ask someone you trust to visit, before you pay.
  • GetMeBed does not collect rent or deposits today. Payments are between you and the hostel.
  • Never pay a hostel that has not accepted your request on GetMeBed, and ask for a receipt for every payment.
  • Read the house rules on the listing before you commit — curfew, guests and mess timings differ a lot between hostels.

Your data

Your student profile is visible to you and to hostels you send a request to. Hostel managers see only what they need to decide on your request. We never sell personal data. Privacy policy →

Report a problem

Misleading listing, unsafe conditions or a request for money outside the process? Tell us the hostel's name and what happened. Safety reports are handled first. Contact us →

Reports about safety or misleading listings go to the front of the queue.
